Cub Scout Pack 139

Cub Scouts at the Blue and Gold Banquet.

Cub Pack 139 has been sponsored by the Cherryfield Congregational Church for over 30 years. Cub Scouting continues to provide a healthy, fun, character building program for over 30 years here in Cherryfield and Milbridge. Past leaders who have made a significant contribution have been Allegra Willey, Jean and Bob Carrier, Cathy and Randy Perry, Carl and Cathy Willey, Kristine Beal, Jeff Taylor, and the late Donna Smith.

Boys ages 6 – 10 are eligible to join the Cub Scouts. Boys meet in Dens once a week with the Den Leaders and work on projects based on the monthly theme. The Dens meet as a Pack during the Pack Meeting each month. This year, we are excited to have Steve Wade step up to the position of Cubmaster. Pack Meetings are an evening of fun, games, skits, and jokes. Annual favorites include the Pinewood Derby with miniature race cars, the Cake Auction with fabulous cakes made by the boys and their dads, uncles, or granddads, and the Blue and Gold Banquet.

Scout Camp at Katahdin Area Council’s Camp Roosevelt in East Eddington offers the Pal ‘n’ Me for three days. Camp is expensive so we need to raise the money for those who want to go. The Tucker Cherryfield Children’s Fund can provide scholarship help as well. The Washington County Cub Day Camp also is held in East Machias shortly after school is out for the summer.

This year’s successful fund raising events included ongoing bottle drives and the annual contribution from the Town of Cherryfield, which was greatly appreciated.

Special events and outings are planned for each month. Skiing, tubing, ice fishing and the Bangor Scout Show are examples. The older cub scouts have gone skiing and camped out at Council-wide Camporees.

  1. The U.S. Scouting Service Project (USSSP) has been providing on-line resources for Scouters for 20 years since our first web pages went up way back in 1994. Cub Scout leaders routinely download our monthly Baloo’s Bugle which features tons of meeting plan ideas.

Our Advancement pages and Merit Badge workbooks are one of the most popular features for Troop leaders. Among the 40,000+ pages on our site are popular web portals like NetCommish, MacScouter, the Scouts-L Discussion List, and the Ask Andy Scouting Advice Column.

Two areas of our site that have undergone major changes are Here you will find more than 1,200 camps across America including every BSA owned or managed property along with camp reviews, maps, weather, and the reviews of other Scouters who have been there. You are invited to leave your own reviews of the camps you have visited or submit your own favorite campsite to add to the largest Scouting oriented “Where to Go Camping” guide on the internet.

The other site we wanted to share with you is our ScoutSite Search with more than 40,000 scouting websites from Packs, Troops, Crews, Explorer Posts, and Councils across America. You can search & sort listings by state, unit number, council or unit type. The Katahdin Area Council has 116 websites. Is yours listed?

We hope you will stop by and bookmark our family of Scouting websites, all can be found at:

  2. Good day. My name is Sean Brown & I am the Command Master Chief on USS NITZE (DDG 94). About a month ago we received a box of flags from the Pocket Flag Project & Cub Scout Pack 139 of Maine. I wanted to send that Pack a thank you letter from our Captain but I also want to ensure I have the right group. If you sent the flags please let me know & if you would give me your mailing address so I can send you a thank you letter I would greatly appreciate.

    R, CMDCM Brown

    • Hello Command Master Chief Brown!

Sorry to be late but we are excited that your ship received the Flags. We had no idea where they would end up. I did receive a call from your ship and I gave the caller our mail information. I read in the news the other day about the USS Nitze being harassed by Iranian Gunboats.

We thank you all for your service and will keep you in our prayers to stay safe as you help keep us safe.

PS: It is near here that the first Naval Battle of the American Revolution occurred in June of 1775 with the capture of the British Naval Sloop Margaretta. The event is considered by some naval historians as the birth date and place of the United States Navy – Machias Bay, Maine
